Activities in Plettenberg Bay
The Jewel of the Garden Route
Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, often known as “The Jewel of the Garden Route” due to its stunning scenery, is open to visitors year-round. Our little town was recently selected as one of Africa’s Best Beach Destinations by the World Travel Awards.
Even though Plett is a town that is typically only visited during the summer, there are plenty of activities available here and along the Garden Route all year long.
Plett is well-known for its long, pristine beaches, crystal-clear ocean, whales, dolphins, seals, forests, and mountains. Because of the exceptional natural beauty of the surroundings and the area’s relative undeveloped state, Plett is a popular vacation spot for both foreign and South African tourists.
Activities in Plettenberg Bay
The region is also well-known for a variety of activities, many of which are exclusive to the area and help to define its character. Close-up whale watching, hiking on the Robberg Peninsula, the world’s highest bungy jump, the Harkerville forest cycle trails, and animal sanctuaries are just a few examples.
Plettenberg Bay is expanding, nevertheless, both in terms of its population and the variety of activities available to residents and visitors alike. These activities include live music performances, sporting events, art classes, and dance parties with well-known DJs.
Our tourist attractions are activities
Our tourist attractions are mostly activities, ranging from adventure sports to more sedate activities like golf and kayaking, and a plethora of family attractions. You can take in breathtaking scenery by looking at it upside down on a bungy cord, right way up a tree-top swing, on a bike, a bicycle, on skis, on a jet ski, on a boat, a glider, surfboard, or hanging off a parachute!
We also enjoy a lot of food, wine, and beer. As a result, a lot of the local attractions center around food and drink. These include wine tastings, food festivals, and other culinary events, as well as grape growing and wine drinking.
No matter where you go, from the decks of yachts in our sister town of Knysna to the polo matches at Kurland in the Crags, there are always oysters and local bubbles to enjoy.
Activities deserving a mention also include Whale, seal and dolphin watching by boat or from Robberg Nature Reserve. There are exceptional elephant, bird, primate, cat, wolf sanctuaries as well as our very own Plettenberg Bay Game reserve for viewing the big 5 up close and personal. Swimming with seals is a popular activity too in Plett.
Around Plettenberg Bay
Plettenberg Bay is close to Tsitsikamma, Storms River, or other indigenous forest path locations, for those of you who enjoy hiking. The most well-known of these being the ten-day Otter Trail. Reservations must be made one year in advance.
If you’re a pretty level-headed person who enjoys the beach only for 30 minutes after 4 p.m. who wouldn’t be caught dead upside down off the Bloukrans bridge for anything, there are more excellent specialty shops and markets than you can shake your holiday wallet at, along with cute courtyard cafes and art galleries.
The best things in life are, of course, free and Plettenberg Bay’s top activities are also. Nothing compares to reading a book while lounging on a scorching beach, swimming, tanning, sleeping, eating ice cream, and swimming some more.
