EIGHT BLUE FLAG BEACHES FOR PLETT
The Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa has given Plett eight worldwide Blue Flag Awards for the 2025–2026 season. Nature’s Valley was also recognized with a Green Coast Award.
This is one of the most recognizable voluntary eco-labels in the world. Blue Flag accreditation is given to marinas, beaches, and sustainable boating tourism businesses.
Six of Plett’s beaches—Robberg 5, The Waves, Nature’s Valley, Lookout, The Dunes, and Singing Kettle. Offshore Adventures, a seal-swimming company, was granted full Blue Flag designation. A number of strict environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility requirements must be fulfilled and upheld in order to be eligible. In recognition of Bitou’s longstanding dedication to excellence, Robberg 5 and Lookout beaches were given special honors commemorating 16 and 11 years, respectively, in the Blue Flag program.
Every Blue Flag beach that is named offers more opportunities in addition to recognition. According to Patty Butterworth, CEO of Plett Tourism, “the award fosters a ripple effect of growth that strengthens families, livelihoods, and the heart of Bitou from local guides and guesthouses to restaurants and beach services and activities.”
These honors are a strong testament to Bitou’s dedication to preserving clean, safe, and ecologically conscious coastal areas. They show the diligence of committed personnel that make sure our natural resources continue to be of the highest caliber.
