We at Bayside Lodge care deeply about all guest reviews as well as any accolades we receive. We know how important it is for prospective guests when selecting a Bed and Breakfast in Plettenberg Bay. We are thrilled to have consistently held either 3rd or 4th place for the last five years on Trip Advisor and to have received their “Hall of Fame” certificate this year. Hotels Combined has also sent us a certificate with a rating of 9.8 again this year. Below are some recent reviews from Trip Advisor, booking.com and an email.
Dear Adrienne and Bernard,
It is some time ago that we came back to Germany, but our mind is still full of wonderful memories from our SA stay. And one reason is that we could stay in your wonderful location in Plett. We enjoyed it a lot: the rooms which
have been prepared so fondly, the breakfast which served all possible wishes and, last but not least, your warm welcome and so helpful information and recommendations. Our trip to Robberg Island was definitely one of the highlights of our journey – see photo attached.
After being in Plett we went to Amakhala, that was just gorgeous. Seeing lions, giraffes, cheetahs, elephants and so much more was an experience we will never Forget!
Take Care!

A base to do all the Garden Route “experiences”
Our hosts Bernie and Adrienne very efficiently dealt with all their cus
tomers arriving to check in, all at the same time! Offering us damp flannels to freshen up, apple juice, a map of the town and some suggestions of places to eat nearby and further afield. Our bedroom was spacious and had a sitting room attached. The bathroom was well equipped and there was ample storage and hanging space too. All were kept immaculately clean, and fresh flowers and port had been placed in the room. There was secure parking for all guests, the gardens were well maintained and colourful, with visiting birds on feeders. A small and attractive pool for visitors. Breakfast offered a buffet of fruit juice, breads, croissants, ham and cheese, plus hot dishes which included a full cooked breakfast or eggs Benedict. Coffee or a pot of tea. Over breakfast Adrienne checked up on how we had spent the previous day and our dining experiences. She then made recommendations of places and visitor attractions to visit along the coast, providing leaflets, discount offers and maps in a most helpful way. Both she and Bernie, finding we were interested in indigenous birds, gave us bird lists and recommended places to go birdwatching around Plett. Three nights at Bayside gave us the time to do everything we wanted in and around Plett so not sure we’d return there. But it, and Bayside, is a very good base for notching up the many visitor experiences that the Garden Route offers to tourists.

What guests loved the most:
“The Best B&B in Plettenberg!! With the warmest greeting on arrival from Adrienne & Bernie we knew we had picked the right place, they could not do enough for you, the rooms ( so big too!) and facilities put some 5* Hotels to shame. The attention to detail is second to none, the Breakfast was perfect and plentiful with great service from the Ladies. The local knowledge that they had too was invaluable in helping make our visit to The Garden Route so much more. The local restaurants they recommend were spectacular, try ‘The Fat Fish’ for s
ure !!Thank you for a wonderful stay, hope to be back soon! Cannot recommend enough, book Bayside Lodge if you are staying in the area 👍🏼”
HotelsCombined recognize Bayside Lodge amongst the best hotels in South Africa
Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, 12 September 2019- HotelsCombined, the Australian-based hotel meta-search company, has started an extensive survey covering different types of accommodations within South Africa. This survey is based on gathering data from millions of guest reviews, and translating them to an official Recognition of Excellence.
The HotelsCombined Recognition of Excellence is not a ranking list but a group of outstanding accommodations chosen based on a strict set of criteria. In order to be considered, properties must meet the following criteria:
- At the time of judging, a winner is rated 8.00/10 or over with a minimum of 50 customer reviews certified by HotelsCombined.
- We couldn’t detect any major customer service problems, nor recurring or unresolved issues.
Bayside Lodge boasts a high satisfaction rating among guests and travel industry experts, receiving 365 reviews for an impressive rating of 9.8 out of 10.
“We are thrilled to be working with the best hotels in South Africa and Bayside Lodge is certainly among them” said Alberto Castellucchio, market manager of HotelsCombined South Africa “What is different about the Recognition of Excellence is the way information is gathered and analysed: it all depends on the guest and his or her experience with that particular accommodation.”
“With HotelsCombined 30 million people are finding the best deal available on-line every month. With this award, we’d like to make it even easier for every traveller to identify the best hotel for customer service and therefore the best value for their money”.
