Breakfasts at Bayside are a popular reason our guests book us as they have read on reviews that we provide the best breakfast they have had in South Africa. The variety on offer is to suit all palates and dietary requirements and of course there are often special occasions to be celebrated as well. Our staff welcome the chance to sing happy birthday as they walk into the breakfast room singing with a birthday cake or cupcake, candles, flowers and a gift. On the continental buffet we offer a wide selection of cereals and our two types of homemade muesli are very popular. The recipes are below for easy reference!
BIRCHER BREAKFAST MUESLI
Soak oats, mixed seeds, raisins or sultanas overnight in apple juice.
Next morning mix in full fat greek yoghurt and add optional extras such as nuts, cinnamon, mixed spice to taste.
HOME MADE BREAKFAST MUESLI OR GRANOLA
Mix together –
6 cup rolled oats
1 cup chopped nuts,
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup wheatgerm
1 cup powdered bran
1/2 cup sunflower oil
1/2 cup syrup or treacle
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
Spread out on a large baking tray and bake for 2-2.5 hours in a low oven and mix every half an hour.
Another dish which we offer which goes well with breakfast muesli is our stewed fruit. This is dried fruit which has been re-constituted with rooibos tea bags and water. Then of course there is the fruit platter lovingly put together by Bernie as well as different flavours of yoghurt, four types of cereal and then toast, muffins, croissants. Finally the continental breakfast offers our guests cold cuts of meat as well as different types of cheese.
We brew a wonderful local blend of coffee by San Francisco Coffees and there are 12 different types of tea offered at breakfast as well as orange and apple juice, hot chocolate and dairy free milk. The ladies are also available to take orders for espressos and cappuchinos. Some guests help themselves a couple of time at the buffet and others look at the hot cooked menu for their preferred combination of English breakfast item. Our two most popular hot dishes are Eggs Benedict and pancakes.
The location was perfect for a stop off whilst driving the garden route- the property is very close to several great restaurants, activities such as dolphin and whale watching and a short walk to the beach, in a lovely secluded area. Plettenberg itself is a real gem. The property is gorgeous and the rooms very clean and beautifully decorated. The room was fully equipped with everything that you might need, split over two floors (Finch room)- so that the bedroom and bathroom were “upstairs” and the lounge and kitchen were downstairs. It was like being in your own house. There was a private outdoor space, BBQ and seating area- a great touch. Plenty of fresh towels, bath robes and crisp bed linen made it a very comfy stay indeed. We didn’t get the chance to use the pool, but it was perfectly set up for relaxing with plenty of space and relaxing loungers, set in a lovely garden. Offers of restaurant bookings and further assistance, as well as an extensive guide to the area and discount vouchers were very welcome. The breakfast was well prepared and delicious– with a buffet and cooked breakfast along with great coffee. Breakfast staff were lovely. Highly recommended and exceptional value for money. Adrienne and Bernie were very welcoming, it really was like being at home. Thank you, we will be back 🙂
